...especially after evidence like this:
Jokes aside, bipartisan cookie jar stealing continues in Illinois... We need Illinois' clean Dem and GOP state officeholders - they do exist - to mop things up at some point... A lot of it isn't even institutional corruption, just the types of Dems and GOPers in many Illinois public offices.
To express his gratitude, Levine chartered a plane to ferry Blagojevich and others to a series of fundraisers in New York on Oct. 29 of that year. On the flight back, Levine brought up to Blagojevich his reappointment to the hospital board post, Levine testified Wednesday at the federal corruption trial of Blagojevich friend and fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko.Maybe former Republican Governor Ryan will be in prison long enough for him and Blagojevich to share a cell?
Blagojevich snapped, "Never discuss any state board with me," according to Levine. "Discuss them with either Tony Rezko or [Blagojevich fundraiser] Chris Kelly."
Then Levine said Blagojevich had something to add: "But you stick with us and you'll do very well for yourself."
Levine said he took that comment to mean that he could make lots of money by doing the governor's bidding on the state board—a panel that prosecutors say Levine then corrupted with Rezko.

He was as powerful and frank as Mitt Romney was weak and calculating earlier this year in his attempt to persuade the religious right that his Mormonism is Christian enough for them.
Experienced Foreign Policy Expert McCain Doesn't Understand Middle East

John McCain, speaking from Jordan today, made the same mistake that countless other Republicans and neoconservatives before him have: lumping all Muslim extremists together into one giant, evil, homogeneous entity.
From the Washington Post:
President Bush also did not know the difference between Shiites and Sunnis before invading Iraq. It's not a coincidence that McCain made the same mistake while saber rattling (with no evidence) at Iran. It was not just a slip of the tongue, McCain made the same statement on Hugh Hewitt's radio show last night. What other fundamental facts about the Middle East isn't McCain aware of? Make no mistake, mind-boggling ignorance like that which McCain has just displayed will lead to more wars if he is elected president.
Think Progress recently compiled some other shockingly wrong statements that maverick McCain has made:
UPDATE: Apparently McCain has made this mistake three times in the last month. But the media narrative of experienced, decisive leader McCain can't be overturned by mere proof of total foreign policy ignorance on fairly fundamental issues like Al-Qaeda terrorism and Iran. Nothing could disprove Bush's foreign policy "toughness" in 2004 either and we all know how well that turned out.
From the Washington Post:
Speaking to reporters in Amman, the Jordanian capital, McCain said he and two Senate colleagues traveling with him continue to be concerned about Iranian operatives “taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back.”
Pressed to elaborate, McCain said it was “common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that’s well known. And it’s unfortunate.” A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, standing just behind McCain, stepped forward and whispered in the presidential candidate’s ear. McCain then said: “I’m sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda.”

“I believe that we can win an overwhelming victory in a very short period of time.” [CNN Late Edition, 9/29/02]
“Do you believe that the people of Iraq or at least a large number of them will treat us as liberators?” “Absolutely. Absolutely,” replied McCain. [MSNBC, Hardball, 3/12/03]
“There’s no doubt in my mind that once these people are gone that we will be welcomed as liberators.” [MSNBC, Hardball, 3/24/03]

Thousands and thousands of pages of Hillary Clinton's scheduling info during her years as first lady will finally be released. Apparently there were plenty of edits demanded by the Clintons, as well as suggested by archives officials, for various reasons, ranging from security to privacy concerns.
Honestly, what are the privacy concerns that would have been outlined in scheduling?

This morning Senator Obama gave his highly anticipated speech in response to the controversial comments made by his former pastor. Rarely, if ever, does one hear a candidate for the highest office speak in such a candid way about race and politics in the United States. Whether you support Senator Obama or not his speech is well worth reading.
The full transcript can be found here and I am sure a video of the full speech will make its way onto YouTube by the end of the day. Here is a video of the speech.

Your thoughts on how he should respond? Will this be the new swift boat? Why is this getting more coverage versus McCain and Hagen?
Regardless, it has done at least some short term general election damage and conservative PACs haven't even run ads yet:

Most voters, 56%, said Wright’s comments made them less likely to vote for Obama. That figure includes 44% of Democrats. Just 11% of voters say they are more likely to vote for Obama because of Wright’s comments.
However, among African-Americans, 29% said Wright’s comments made them more likely to support Obama. Just 18% said the opposite while 50% said Wright’s comments would have no impact.
Overall, voters are evenly divided as to whether Obama should resign his membership in the Church—42% say that he should while 40% disagree. White voters, by a 46% to 33% margin, say that Obama should leave the Church. African-American voters, by a 68% to 16% margin, say he should not. Wright retired last month as Pastor of the Church.
The story became big news in the past several days and has had at least a temporary impact on public perceptions of Obama. Last Thursday, 52% of voters nationwide had a favorable opinion of Obama. That figure has fallen to 47% on Monday (see recent daily results). In recent days, Obama has also lost ground to John McCain in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.

Looks like trouble in Michigan for the re-vote plan:
Legislative leaders say the Sen. Barack Obama camp "needs to agree to the repeat election before legislation is written, and Obama supporters say they must see the bill before signing off on the plan."
Al Franken has a tough hill to climb in the Minnesota Senate race against Norm Coleman. He's currently behind 10 points in the polls.
The NYTimes has a feature article on Paul Bremer's decision to disband the Iraqi army five years ago. Apparently there were some in the Bush administration who weren't so tactless.
