Georgia Thompson Acquitted, Set Free
Wisconsin State Journal:
In a stunning reversal, a federal court of appeals struck down a state worker's fraud conviction that Wisconsin Republicans used in efforts to paint Gov. Jim Doyle's administration as corrupt.

Attorneys on both sides of the case said the three-judge panel likely overruled the trial jury's conviction of former state purchasing officer Georgia Thompson within hours of oral arguments due to a simple lack of evidence.
I'd join the bandwagon of lefty blogs calling for an apology from Republicans that used the original conviction to rail against Jim Doyle and call him corrupt but they were just doing what we would've been doing had, say, Tommy Thompson's staffer been conviced of a similar thing.

I wonder, though, what role the Justice Department's recent revelations of hackery have to do with this. Beyond the obvious wrongful conviction, how bad was the miscarriage of justice? Hopefully we'll get some answers.

Anywho, it's nice to see Georgia Thompson, and therefore Jim Doyle, cleared of a corruption charge.

Feeling Down After the Elections?
I'm going to shamelessly steal Michael Mathias' (of Pundit Nation fame) post election post:
Are you a progressive or Democrat? Employed by a teacher's union? Greater Wisconsin Committee? One Wisconsin Now?

Did your candidate/issue lose?

Are you feeling down, kind of hopeless? You shouldn't be. US Senator Blutarsky didn't give up, and neither should you. After all, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Look 2008 is just around the corner, and there's work to do. Karl Rove thinks Steve Kagen is vulnerable. Already. Doesn't that just burn you?

Did you know that most of the US Senators up for reelection in 2008 are Republicans?

Have you seen the latest polling on the presidential race? Some of these match-ups are a hoot. Come on. You know you want to look.

Did you read Jim Rowen's piece on the next Wisconsin Supreme Court race? Did you see the comment?

So watch this clip, and then pick yourself up and dust yourself off.

And then get back to work.

Because Wisconsin needs you.

Bush Can Do No Wrong
This is spot-on, and extremely frightening. 30% of Americans appear to truly be pathological sheep. As Atrios points out later, this also explains why McCain isn't getting any traction among Republican primary voters.

Tommy Thompson is Running for President
He formally announced this morning on This Week.

Having not lived in Wisconsin when Thompson was governor (I got to experience the reign of Jesse Ventura), I'm not really sure what special qualities he could bring to the race in order to overcome the star power in the already overcrowded Republican field... beyond being able to win the super important and pivotal Wisconsin Republican Primary. I guess he's rather knowledgeable about the super Republican-dominated issue of health care?

Forgive my skepticism about him having much of a chance. We'll see what happens though, especially now that a lot of Republican attention is focused on another Thompson, a former senator from Tennessee and longtime Law and Order actor. You never know how many people that might confuse...
