Tommy Thompson is apparently abandoning his roots in his White House bid - his exploratory committee is based in Alexandria, Virginia according to his website. We don't have to claim him as our own if he's operating out of Virginia, right?

You can watch the Governor's inauguration speech here. Be aware that if, like me, you're using a Macintosh with up to date browsers and the latest media plugins, you won't actually be able to hear sound. (Shouldn't the state be taking reasonable steps to include most computers in their technology offerings? But I digress.)
There's also a transcript of the speech available.

Excerpted from CBS 3 WISC:
Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney was sworn in Tuesday morning, which marked the first time in a quarter of a century when Democrats have swept all seven of Dane County's Constitutional elected positions. There's more if you care to read it.
On Tuesday morning, all took the oath of office. Four of those sworn in, including the district attorney and coroner, were re-elected to their jobs, and three will begin their first terms.

January 2nd

January 2nd is both a national day of mourning (no federal agencies will be doing anything, there will be no mail, etc) and the deadline for filing papers to run for office in the spring elections. Is the State Elections Board going to be accepting late filings (on the 3rd) because of this? At least from those that arrive in the mail (it's perfectly plausible that someone mailed their papers expecting them to arrive on the 2nd only to have a national day of mourning declared on the deadline day). Just wondering...

I remember why I voted for him in the '04 primaries... he's a great speaker with a great vision. Check him out:
