Ok, so I know we've all gone over this before but why not have another go at it? Here's the New York Times' Short Lists for both Senator Obama and Senator McCain.
Who do you think would make the best VP? Who would you most like to see? How about Secretary of Defense, State, Energy, or the ever important Secretary of Transportation?
Here are my picks:
Obama:
VP: Senator Chuck Hagel (Nebraska)
Secretary of Defense: Colin Powell
Secretary of State: Bill Richardson
Three choices that won't cost you a single Democratic post, and Senator Hagel gets big props for his stance on the war and Senator Obama's calls for a post-partisan America.
As for Senator Clinton, I think it's time that she become Majority Leader in the Senate. She has the fire, passion, and popularity that are lacking under Senator Reid, and I think that it's safe to say she'd be up for the challenge.
So there you have it: Clinton & Pelosi leading the Hill, Obama and Hagel in the White House. Is it too much to ask Russ to leave the Senate and become the next Attorney General?
Honestly, can you think of a better person to restore the credibility that Ashcroft/Gonzales destroyed?

Chuck Hagel for VP? WHAT?!? Yes, he was a vital voice of dissent and critical conscience against Bush and the Iraq war, but he is still a staunch, right-wing conservative with a 95 percent voting record in support of the Bush agenda. He is anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-affirmative action, anti-public health, anti-environment, anti-union. Oliver, come on! Look at his voting record! We need change, desperately, in this country (in the world). This choice is more than “settling” it would be abominable.
And Colin Powell as Secretary of defense? Seriously? He has shown himself to have absolutely no courage/honor when confronted with the ethical questions that affect the life of thousands. He was willing to lie and deceive in order to follow the deadly status quo of the Bush Administration. We need leaders with more courage, wisdom, and integrity.
Are we willing to seriously talk about the “change” the people of this country, and the world, are demanding, or will we continue to lift-up, and offer our support to, democrats (and in the case of your ill-chosen candidates, republicans) who are unwilling to stand against the tides of annihilation on this planet, who are unwilling to raise their voices beyond the corporate interests of the hill, and work for a transformed world, a transformed United States.

I have some serious reservations about a Republican as VP. If we are considering kicking Lieberman out of the caucus then how could we possibly let Obama choose a Republican for VP. Whether many choose to believe it or not the issues of the Ira War and Terrorism ARE NOT the most important issues facing our country today.
Now I know he is not on the list but my choice for VP would Wesley Clark, if there is anyone who could restore our credibility in the world it is Clark. He could bring much needed military knowledge and experience to the ticket. Clinton as majority leader would be fantastic but I don't think it will happen.
Of the names on this particular list, which is far from the list I would consider, I would probably be happiest with Hillary Clinton. While I think a Clinton/Obama ticket would have been unstoppable I am still a little unsure of how an Obama/Clinton would work. Once elected though I think they would make a dynamite team!
Sec. of State - Richardson/Clark
Sec. of Defense - Webb/Clark
Attorney General - Doyle/Edwards
Ok, here's mine:
VP: Evan Bayh
Secretary of State: Joe Biden
Attorney General: John Edwards
Secretary of Defense: Robert Gates
National Security Advisor: Jim Webb (Although I'd like for him to stay in the Senate too. I just read his new book, its worth a good lazy summer read)
Ambassador to Serbia: Rod Blagojevich (Because any elected official with a lower approval rating than Dick Cheney in the Democratic Party should discretely be taken care of. He's become a drag for democrats in an important open congressional seat this year, IL-11.
