Alright, I'm sure we've done this before, somewhere in the blog archives. But let's do it again, because perceptions change. Real easy and fun question -- who do you think our likeliest vice-presidential candidates are?
Of course, there are tons of leading contenders, but my pics are Tom Vilsack or Evan Bayh if Clinton is nominated, and John Edwards if Obama is nominated. I would have said Bill Richardson for Clinton, but I doubt they're on speaking terms after the Iowa caucuses.
What do you think?

Vilsack is more likely than Bayh I think because he has some executive experience. I don't think a senator will be chosen as the running mate for fear of opening to charges of "ticket lacking leadership experience." If of course, a senator was picked, I think Biden would be a strong candidate, given the foreign policy experience.
Mark Warner, if he forgoes his senate bid in VA, would be a very powerful choice. He's extremely popular in VA.
I dont see Hillary choosing John Edwards because he's been too critical of her. It would just be too hypocritical. Neither can I see Obama doing it. Edwards doesn't bring any additional voters in. He's not even popular in NC.
Ultimately, I have no idea. The Republicans are even more puzzling.
You're right about Biden, I've tossed around the likelihood -- but he says he's not interested in VP, and I guess we have to take him at his word, right? (A little sarcasm there.)
Yeah, the Republican side is almost impossible to predict. None of the frontrunners could easily settle into the VP role -- or would want to. I could honestly see John McCain picking Joe Lieberman. Who would Mike Huckabee pick, though? Chuck Norris? Stephen Colbert? What party insiders even LIKE Mike Huckabee? Probably, there's some Republican governor somewhere who we're unaware of that the GOP is already eyeing up.
Also, I know he was "disgraced" in his Senate run, but George Allen was the insider favorite for the nomination at one point -- could he make a resurgence? Hmmm.
evan bayh... just slightly enough of a backbone to be a vertebrate.
not really... he's a douche.
I definitely think if Huckabee would try to choose someone less folksy and more experienced in foreign policy. I honestly can't think who though.
Biden would lead to two senators on the ticket, which I don't think is a good idea. Bayh or Vilsack are probably Clinton's top choices, but for Obama is completely up in the air.
While volunteering in Iowa we once discussed this for 45 minutes without coming to any conclusion. Warner is the best option, but he would lock up a hard senate seat in Virginia that we desperately need. Other's threw around Webb's name, which would be a good pick just because of his military experience. The Dem governor could then appoint another Dem and hopefully they'd retain the seat when it was forced into re-election this year (or would it be 2010?).
A Republican I know, going with the "You need a Governor from the South" theory, tossed aside Richardson and suggested Napolitano. With this in mind we came up with Beebe, Sebelius, and Schweitzer. I like Schweitzer.
As for Edwards being Obama's running mate? I don't think that will happen. I don't think any of the top three like each other at all.
Obama-Biden
Clinton-Bayh
Clinton and Clark. Outside bets on Bayh and Strickland (Gov of OH).
Obama and Richardson. Maybe Biden since he has such a pretty smile.
