Rep. Dennis Kucinich, after receiving 1% of the vote in the New Hampshire primary, has demanded a recount.
In accordance with New Hampshire election law, which says that any candidate who receives "one vote or more," the votes will be recounted by hand.
Kucinich is hoping to prove that computerized voting is imperfect and should be barred. He probably is right.

I applaud Kucinich for this -- it's a brilliant move, and it reminds us how vital third-tier candidates are to the process. If his hunch about computerized voting proves correct after the recount, that might elevate the debate over CV to its proper place.
Americans seem peculiarly apathetic about debates over voting issues. It's not just CV --I wish there were a way of starting a movement away from single-member-district-style voting for Congress, but I have no clue how that could happen.
There's a difference between the type of computerized voting they use in New Hampshire (optical scan, which will spit the ballot back at you if you didn't fill something out right) and the type employed in some parts of the country like Georgia where all the votes are cast on touch screen machines and there is no paper trail and therefore no way to manually recount the votes. If all votes were handcounted around the country...well we'd sure need a lot more poll workers.
