January 2nd
January 2nd is both a national day of mourning (no federal agencies will be doing anything, there will be no mail, etc) and the deadline for filing papers to run for office in the spring elections. Is the State Elections Board going to be accepting late filings (on the 3rd) because of this? At least from those that arrive in the mail (it's perfectly plausible that someone mailed their papers expecting them to arrive on the 2nd only to have a national day of mourning declared on the deadline day). Just wondering...
